Read More About the Trip

While at Sharpsburg we visit the site of the bloodiest single day in American history at Sharpsburg and discuss Robert E. Lee's greatest risk. There we see how several generals lived out their Christian faith and duties with great courage in the face of the enemy. We see where "Artillery Hell" took place and learn about famous places such as Bloody Lane, Nicodemus Heights, the Cornfield and Burnside's Bridge.

We then move on to Gettysburg, the largest single battle in all of North America where there is much to learn and see. Visiting such places as Little Round Top, Devil's Den, The Slaughter Pen, Seminary Ridge, Cemetery Hill, The Peach Orchard, and The Wheat Field will give these terms new meaning.

Finally, we visit Lexington, Virginia where Jackson lived and taught at VMI prior to the war, and where Lee served as president of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) after the War. This is also the location where Lee, Jackson and many other godly men are buried. We will study their personal devotion to God and their selfless leadership.

The Advanced Course

Each fall we have a trip for alumni- those men and boys who have already attended the Basic Course/ Gettysburg trip. The trips vary each year but always build upon the principals taught on the Gettysburg trip.

Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville

On the Gettysburg trip (The Basic Course) the concepts of Biblical Manhood were introduced and the principles of genuine leadership explored. In the Advanced Course we will drill deeper into other aspects of Biblical Manhood with an emphasis on the process of developing future leaders. Our battlefield time will be spent on the fields of First Manassas (Bull Run), Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville. Additionally, we will visit Pamplin Park (www.pamplinpark.org), an interactive park dedicated to the common Civil War Soldier. We will also visit the site of Stonewall Jackson's death and Hollywood Cemetery (where Jeb Stuart and others are buried).
