Lead With Character is run by our volunteer Trip Leader (Steve Maye), our Ministry Director (Mike Parker) and a team of volunteers.

In loving memory of our faithful comrade, Douglas Austin Parker
Steve Maye

Steve Maye

Steve is the volunteer Trip Leader and primary teacher at Lead With Character. He is managing partner at Drake Capital, a regional real estate investment company, and has previously served as president of three companies and one nonprofit. His leadership journey began at The Citadel, where he served as Executive Officer of the Corps of Cadets and was trained by some of the U.S. military’s greatest leaders—experiences that continue to shape his teaching and example today. Steve is passionate about helping men flourish in faith, family, and purpose. He and his wife Peggy split their time between Landrum, SC and Charlotte, NC. They have four grown children and six grandchildren.

Mike Parker

Mike Parker

Mike serves as Lead With Character’s Ministry Director, overseeing operations throughout the year and during each trip. He brings a blend of corporate leadership experience - ranging from Fortune 50 to small business ownership - with a tenacious, relational approach to serving God’s men. A U.S. Navy veteran and graduate of UNC–Charlotte, Mike lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Karen. They have two sons. Their younger son, Doug - who faithfully served on many Lead With Character trips - passed in 2025. Doug’s life and example continue to shape this ministry and the men it serves.

Paul Mulner

Paul Mulner

Paul serves as chaplain for Lead With Character, offering prayer, conversation, and encouragement to men and boys during the trip and long after. He has a deep love for helping others connect truth to real life and welcomes hard questions. Paul holds degrees from Erskine College and Reformed Theological Seminary, and has served as a pastor, church planter, and an organizational development executive. He now helps lead Atticus - a company that connects mission-aligned donors with nonprofits doing transformative work. Paul and his wife, Daphne, live in Atlanta with their three children.

Nathan Mulner

Nathan Mulner

Nathan serves as quartermaster and aide‑de‑camp on Lead With Character trips. He manages drinks, food, and other behind-the-scenes needs that keep the staff focused on the mission and allow our guests to participate fully in the experience. A high school junior, Nathan is passionate about aviation from both a pilot’s and engineer’s perspective. He has spent time in Delta’s 7x7 simulator and is currently exploring AFROTC, engineering programs, and service academies as paths toward a career in the U.S. Air Force. When he’s not competing on his mountain bike or building and flying drones, Nathan plays piano and composes and produces electronic music he makes available on Spotify.
